About Us
For over 30 years, Little Red Kettle has been creating theatre for, by and with children and young people. Based in Waterford city, we empower young people to explore their imaginations, express their ideas and tell their own stories through theatre and play.
From interactive productions that travel directly to primary schools to weekly workshops, Culture Club, camps and creative projects, we provide welcoming and inclusive spaces where every young voice is valued. Our programmes encourage children and young people to experiment, take creative risks and discover new ways of expressing themselves.
Rooted in play, collaboration and participation, our work helps young people build confidence, form meaningful connections and experience the joy of creativity. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to engage with the arts, share their ideas and feel that their voice matters.
![July at Little Red Kettle: Summer Camps, Creativity and Festival Fun in Waterford July at Little Red Kettle was all about creativity, colour, summer camp energy and festival fun. With our regular weekly workshops finished for the summer, July gave us the chance to welcome children and young people back into creative spaces in a different way. Across the month, we enjoyed summer camps, creative activities, gallery visits, photography, drama, movement, arts and crafts, and a very exciting trip to All Together Now. It was a month filled with imagination, connection and opportunities for young people in Waterford to explore their creativity in new ways. From workshop rooms to outdoor spaces and festival settings, July reminded us how valuable creative experiences can be for children and young people, especially during the summer months. [PHOTO 1: July overview / summer camps collage] Summer Camps at Little Red Kettle July was filled with summer camp energy at Little Red Kettle, as children and young people joined us for weeks of drama, movement, arts and crafts, storytelling, photography and creative play. Across our Summer in Colour camps and Culture Club summer camp, each group explored creativity in their own way. Our younger groups stepped into imaginative worlds through drama games, movement, making and playful activities, while Culture Club spent the week exploring poetry, photography, self-portrait work, journalling and visits to creative spaces around Waterford. The camps gave young people the chance to try new things in a welcoming and supportive environment. Some activities focused on movement and play, encouraging children to use their bodies, voices and imaginations. Others were more reflective, giving participants time to draw, write, photograph, journal and think about their own creative ideas. [PHOTO 2: children taking part in summer camp drama or movement activity] One of the lovely things about summer camps at LRK is the mix of energy and reflection. There are moments of big group games, laughter and movement, but also quieter moments where young people can focus on making, writing or developing their own ideas. That balance is an important part of the creative process. From workshop rooms to galleries, parks and city streets, the camps gave young people time and space to try new things, connect with others and express themselves in a supportive environment. It was a colourful, energetic and creative start to the summer at LRK. [PHOTO 3: Culture Club summer camp activity] Little Red Kettle at All Together Now To finish off the month, Little Red Kettle headed to All Together Now on Friday 31st July, where we were part of the Kids Together area. We were delighted to bring creativity, theatre and play to the festival with two workshops and two performances throughout the day. It was a wonderful opportunity to bring Little Red Kettle’s work beyond our usual spaces and share it with families in a lively festival setting. Our interactive play, A Tremendously Terrible Tantrum, invited children to take part in the story and explore big feelings in a playful, engaging way. Through theatre, participation and imagination, the performance encouraged young audiences to get involved, respond, laugh and think about emotions in a fun and accessible way. We also ran creative mask-making workshops, where children designed their own imaginative creatures and characters. These hands-on sessions were all about creativity, self-expression and fun, giving young people the chance to make something of their own in the festival setting. Being part of the Kids Together area allowed us to connect with children and families in a different way. Festivals are full of energy, colour and curiosity, making them a lovely place for young people to encounter theatre, art and creative play. It was a brilliant way to end a colourful and creative month, bringing a little bit of Little Red Kettle magic to families at All Together Now. [PHOTO 4: Little Red Kettle at All Together Now / Kids Together area] Looking Back on July July may have been quieter in terms of our regular weekly programmes, but it was full of creativity, imagination and exciting opportunities to bring LRK out into the wider community. A huge thank you to all of the children and young people who joined us this month, whether at summer camp, Culture Club camp or All Together Now. Thank you for bringing your energy, ideas and creativity into everything you did. Thank you also to the families who continue to support Little Red Kettle, and to our facilitators, artists and team members who help make these creative experiences possible. Every workshop, camp, visit and performance relies on care, planning and collaboration, and we are very grateful to everyone involved. As we look back on July, we are reminded once again of the importance of giving young people space to create, play, reflect and connect. Whether they are making something with their hands, stepping into a story, exploring a gallery or joining in at a festival, these creative moments help build confidence, imagination and a sense of belonging. We are looking forward to more stories, more imagination and more creative adventures ahead.
